A visit to a tiny aquarium located alongside the Pacific Ocean on the coast of Oahu began as a refuge from a sudden rainstorm and soon became one of the highlights of my trip. In each aquatic habitat, I drank in the blues – from cool cobalt to warm aquas, which created the backdrops for neon-bright fish of fuchsia and tangerine. The creatures appeared luminescent – is it because of the reflectivity of the water, or the opalescent transparency of their scaly skin? Whatever the reason, it was a festival of color, texture, and pattern that fascinated and inspired.
